My name is Captain Larry Wren and I would like to invite you on the First Choice!

The First Choice is a custom built sport fishing boat, designed and built at Merritt Boat Works.

The boat has been named “The perfect fishing machine” and the “best all round fishing vessel” by Marlin magazine.

Actually most of the other charter captains tell me this boat is too nice to charter! From the classic teak and mahogany wood work to the common rail diesel engines set this boat above the competitors!

Having spending many years fishing from different boats I could see what worked and what didn’t. The day boat is the best of everything, a HUGE cockpit or fishing area, with comfortable seating that gets you out of the elements and sun. Twin turbo charged diesel engines (700 horsepower) will power you quickly to the fishing grounds. A fighting chair for battling the big one along with Penn and Shimano rods and reels. Our arsenal of tackle also includes electric kite reels and Alutecnos high speed sail fishing kite rods and reels.

There is clean bathroom on board located in the front of the boat after passing through the teak and mahogany cabin area.

This is not the average charter boat and was built for giant blue fin tuna fishing in the Bahamas. The boat needed to be fast to get in front of the school of tuna, then extremely nimble to bait and turn the fish from sounding over the reefs edge. Most important was that the boat needed to be able to back down on the giant tuna very quickly. The 37 foot Merritt boats dominated the Cat Cay Tuna tournaments. More importantly these qualities make the Merritt Boats the most sought after fishing boats in the world today!

When you charter the “First Choice” 37′ Merritt sport fish guaranteed to be clean, fueled, and stocked with baits, spare gear, and  clean ice-filled coolers, as well as two expert crew members trained to ensure you have the best fishing experience possible.

We are a private charter boat so there will only be you and your guests on board (six people max)! In addition to furnishing everything, we will clean and bag your catch at the end of the day. The only thing you bring is food and beverages.
